Women

<rant>

I have my first grandchild (a girl) coming along in a day or so, and I thought it would be in keeping with that theme if I were to rant about women for a moment.

English is a funny language. It has evolved over a very long period, so it holds a bunch of strange, historical quirks. One thing that is interesting to me is the sexist stuff that we hang onto. For instance, we use male genital names to signify strength, ‘having balls,’ and female ones for weakness, such as ‘being a pussy.’ I don’t know about you guys, but this really doesn’t conform at all to my life experience. For example, we use the word ‘sissy’ to make fun of someone for being weak, or cowardly. The etymology of this word is interesting. ‘Sissy’ originally comes from the word ‘sister.’ Now, I absolutely dare anyone to piss my sister off. No, really, give it a go. Lol. If you are going to, please try to do it at my place, and do it around supper time. It will be like cabaret meets UFC. I will even wear a suit if you want.

You see, all of the women in my family are strong and fierce. The men of the family spend most of their time trying really hard to not annoy any of them. Come to think of it, most of the women I know are like this. Strong beings that really know their own minds and don’t shy away from giving you a piece of it. The weaker sex? While it may be true that some men are physically stronger than any individual woman, that sure isn’t me, or any of the guys I know… I am quite sure that more than half of the women on my hockey team could totally kick my ass. (Actually, it is probably all of them, but I’m trying to preserve a little dignity here.)

There were a couple of articles that I read over the past weeks that annoyed me a lot. (See what I did there?)

The first article was about the women that stormed that temple in India, because they have never been allowed to enter it. I mean, come on guys. You know your great-great-whatever-grandfather, the guy that helped build that temple? Well, the reason his imaginary friend didn’t want women in the temple was because he, and the other men of the area didn’t want them in the temple, probably so they had a place that they could go and hide from the women. The reason they are still not allowed into the temple is because you don’t want them there. Yes, YOU. Stop pretending for a second and think about it. There is nothing sacred or holy going on here. You are just being a dick. I see the same behaviour in most religions of the world. Christian men made sure that a bride was swearing to obey her husband in her wedding vows, I’m sure so they could bring it up later on. I don’t think my Dad has ever been brave enough to test that theory.

Some of the reasons for wanting to subjugate a people, or a gender, are these: you want something that they have; you want them to do your crappy work; and/or you are afraid of them, or something you imagine they can do, and you want to keep them under control. When it comes to women, men seem to be guilty of all three of these. Let me make that clearer for you guys – Your lazy, can’t-boil-water ass is, understandably, a little scared of women, and you are a kind of frustrated that they are actually in charge of whether you get any action or not. Sounds to me like a lot of men need to just grow up.

Don’t believe me? Let’s take a look at the second article that annoyed me. Apparently, the high court of Saudi Arabia decreed that men now have to actually let their wives know when they divorce them. It was decided that they could do it by text though. Breaking up with someone by text, and ONLY because the law says you have to. Wow. Maybe they should rethink that, because they are really coming off like a bunch of pussies that need to grow some friggin’ balls.

Get a grip fellas. You’re embarrassing me in front of my granddaughter.

Damn.
